Each aid station is free to add their own flair to the mix, so who knows what surprises they will have in store for you. Crew Info

    • Crews are welcome at the start/finish and at Aid Station #1 – Crews are NOT allowed at aid station #2 or #3 due to limited access. Aid station locations and directions will be posted for crews.
    • Please respect the speed limit within the park.  If a runner’s crew is caught speeding within the park, the runner will be disqualified.  Seriously.  The trail crosses the road a couple of times, and the last thing we want is a runner injured by a careless crew vehicle.

    Pacer Info

    • No pacers for the 20 or 40 miler.
    • 60 miler – Pacers allowed for the final 20 mile loop. Only one pacer per runner at a time.
    • 100 mile – Pacers allowed for the last 3 loops, OR once it gets dark, whichever comes first.  You may have more than one pacer, but only one may be on the trail with you at any given time.

    DROP BAGS

There will be a designated area near the start/finish where
you can set up a chair and your supplies for between loops. Limited space, set up early. We will also haul your second drop bags out to Aid Station #2 – about 8 miles into the trail.  The following restrictions are for the bags we will bring out to Aid Station #2.
    • Drop bags must be in bags!  5 gallon size MAX.
    • No trunks, ice chests, Tupperware, boxes and so on.  Only 5 gallon bags or smaller.
    • All bags MUST be labelled with your name and bib #.
    • Only ONE bag per person.
    • Bring drop bags to packet pickup OR bring to the designated area at the race start.  Drop bags will be delivered right after the race start, and will be returned to the start/finish area by 9:00 am on Sunday, February 5th.  If you need it sooner than that, you will have to get it
      yourself.
    • Drop bags will be lined up by bib # order.
    • All abandoned drop bags are considered donations.  Anything worthy will be donated to a local shelter, the rest will be thrown away.  Do not contact us about a favorite beanie you left behind.  After the race is complete it will no longer be in our possession.
    • All distances may have drop bags.
    • All drop bags must be weatherproof.  They will not be under any cover.
    • When you dig through your bag, be sure to put everything back into it before you take off again.  We are NOT responsible for lost items.

    CHECK IN/ OUT

    CHECK IN
Every runner MUST check in at the start/finish line!  This is
not a chip timed race, so if we don’t know you are there, you will not get a time.

    CHECK OUT
DNF, DROP, QUIT, LEAVE EARLY, MISSED CUTOFF, LEFT THE COFFEE POT ON
ALL runners who do not finish the race MUST let a race
official know if you have left the course.  You can come to the finish line to let us know so we won’t spend all night trying to find you in the National Park. If you start a distance and drop early, you DO NOT get credit for the shorter distance – you get a DNF for the distance you signed up for.  No exceptions.

    ROLLING CUTOFFS

The overall cutoff for the race is 30 hours from the first start time, or 1:00pm on Sunday.  This is a FIRM cutoff time.  Once you guys are finished racing, our volunteers still have to sweep the course and pick up course markings, etc.

*** if it is an out and back year, aid station cutoffs will be sent out to you.

Start/Finish Cutoff – 1:00 p.m.  for all distances.  No buckles will be handed out after the 1:00 p.m. cutoff.  No exceptions.

    Aid station cutoffs on Sunday.  AS1 – 8:15 am; AS2 – 9:30 am; AS3 – 11:55 am

    COURSE MARKING, ROUTE and TERRAIN

    COURSE MARKING

The course is well marked by the state park with orange blazes on the trees, but will also be marked by us with contractor flags (confidence markers) along the way. The flags should always stay on your right.  If you leave the trail to take care of business and get turned around, you will know you are headed in the right direction when you see the flags on your right.  There will not be glow sticks.  The reflective ribbons are highly visible with your headlamp.  The brighter your light, the more visible they are.  If you have no light, you won’t see them.  It is your responsibility to stay on the course.  Don’t be caught in the dark without a light.

    ROUTE AND TERRAIN

This is a beautiful and challenging trail.  Most of the trail is single track, with only about 1/2 mile on pavement, but it is as you are crossing a car bridge over the lake, and it is beautiful. The trail is rooty in sections, and has a few short, steep climbs, but the majority of it is very runnable.
    100 MILE COURSE – 5 loops
    60 MILE COURSE – 3 loops
    Etc.

    AWARDS

20, 40 and 60 mile runners will receive a race medal and 100 milers will receive a buckle, with the sub 24 hour finishers receiving a sub-24 buckle. Overall male and female first place finishers at each distance will also receive an award.

    DOGS

Dogs are allowed in the park but must be leashed and well controlled. Any reports of dogs off leash and the dog will have to be removed from the park. I understand you love your dogs, I think they are pretty cool too, but this event is not for them, it is for the runners and their people. If a dog gets in the way of the people, the dog will have to leave.

    LITTERING

No.  Just don’t.  If you are signing up for a trail race, I am assuming along with the desire to do an ultra distance event also comes a love and respect for nature. When you are out there on the trail, you are a visitor in nature.  Be a polite guest and pack out your trash to the next aid station. There, they will be happy to dispose of it for you.  I am seeing more and more litter at races I participate in, and as RD, I have a ZERO tolerance policy.  If you are seen willfully littering by any of our volunteers, you will not receive a medal, buckle, or finisher time.  Period. Be a big boy or girl and clean up your own mess.

    PAYMENT POLICY and TRANSFERS

    No refund.
    No rollovers to next year.
    No transfers to another person.
No mailing of shirts or packets before or after the event. Even if you offer to pay shipping.
    TRANSFERS
This bears repeating.  You can NOT give or sell your bib to another runner.  When someone gives their bib to another runner who happens to place in the bib owner’s age group, etc., it will throw off all of the results.

    PARKING and CAMPING

    PARKING

There is plenty of parking at the start/finish.

This is a beautiful park with tons of camping, as well as great cabins. The cabins book very quickly, so if you are interested, grab one as soon as they open up,  https://www.reserveamerica.com/camping/chicot-state-park/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=LA&parkId=240027

    MUSIC/ EARBUDS and TREKKING POLES

    MUSIC/EARBUDS

Earbuds are welcome for this race but please keep the volume low enough to hear other runners who may want to pass you. Much of this trail is single track, so please be courteous of the other runners out there.

TREKKING POLES are not allowed. The trail is too narrow, and really, the hills aren’t that long. You will be fine without them.

    SHIRTS

All shirts are pre-stuffed into your packet. We will make every effort to be sure that runners registering by the cutoff date get the size shirt they requested. We can not swap your size at packet pickup. Give the right size at sign up – the shirts often run small, so consider sizing up. If we have extras after all packets are picked up, you may be able to swap the size or buy additional shirts. TSHIRT CUT OFF DATE: Register by November 2, 2023 to get a shirt!

    RACE BIBS

Your race bib must be worn on the front of your body.
Whether it is on your shirt or shorts is up to you.
